| My Fev. Books: Reading is a habit which I picked up when I was about 8 years old or so. I started out by reading comics like Tom & Jerry, Tubby, Little Lulu, Looney Tunes, etc. Then I graduated into reading books. Fairy Tales by Hans Anderson and also by others. Then on to children's adventure stories, and slowly going bigger in years to Huckleberry Finn, Tom Brown's School Days, etc. Growing again to detective stories by a myriad of authors, like James Hadley Chase, Erle Stanley Gardener, Mickey Spillane, etc., etc., etc. Then on to the Ian Flemings, Nick Carters, Leslie Charteris, and too many more to recall. Then there were the Westerns from authors like Louis L'Amour, Max Brand, SUDDEN series, and many, many more. Historicals by Harold Lamb like 'ALEXANDER', GHENGIS KHAN, etc. Then there were the humorous books by P.G. Wodehouse, Richard Gordon, Alan Coren, Peter Ustinov ( the late actor ), Shalom Aleichem, Jerome K. Jerome, etc., etc. From there I graduated to classics, the Works of Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Emile Bronte, Oliver Goldsmith, Alexander Dumas, Thomas Hardy, Aristotle, Socrates, Machiavelli, Confucius, Sir Richard Burton ( not the late actor, but the Arabian scholar ), The Thousand Nights & One Night, translated from French into English by Mardus & Mathers, The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, Persian poems translated into English, The Holy Qur'an, The Holy Bible, some parts of the Hindu Scriptures, etc. etc. Apart from these books, I also am interested and have read many, many books about Ghosts, devils, etc. in fiction as well as non-fiction. In the non-fiction side I have read a great deal of books written about World War 1 & World War II ! Thus, you see, I am a prolific reader and this is one of the gifts which the Almighty has given me, for which I am eternally thankful, as I can sit at my favourite spot at home and converse with great minds, long gone in body but not in spirit, and learn MUCH from them ! |
